    Called the number listed for the Anchorage office today. Expected a long hold, but my call was answered within 10 minutes. Garrett assisted me and was able to answer all my questions completely and in a way that I could easily understand. He was very pleasant and courteous!

    to get a replacement SSN card, you will need to go to your Hospitals Medical Record and get a page demographic of your information certified and signed. then you can mail that in with your Birth Certificate, otherwise you will need to send in your Identification Card or Driver's License. NO PHOTO COPIES you need to send in the ORIGINAL. I learned this after many attempts to update name.

    I need personal assistance completing an SSDI and SSDI claim for my wife who has ALS (a terminal disease). I have completed an online form, but have questions about a couple of answers before finalizing. I called the main office (866-772-3081) and they said I needed to talk to a local claims agent at 855-602-5001. But that automated answering systme will not forward me to a human being.

    I am trying to make an appointment at the Anchorage SS office. Every time I try the phone number, I get cut off at the exact same spot in the dialogue. I have tried 3 different numbers, all with the same result. I need to get a replacement social security card. I need to speak with a representative about signing up for social security and medicare. I live off grid and have limited internet access, not feasible to do it all by internet. Please contact me so I can make an appointment.

SSI makes monthly payments to people who have low income and few resources and are:
Age 65 or older;
Blind; or
Disabled.

Parents or guardians usually can apply for blind or disabled children under age 18. In some cases, other third parties can apply for children.

    I'm the natural parent of an underage child. I needed my daughters social security card replaced and I provided all her documents. They were refused by office personnel, and office personnel told me they won't issue her a new card because she doesn't work, and she needs a credit score. This was AFTER I provided her birth certificate and photo ID. She's attending school and can't work without her Social Security Card, the thing I am trying to replace. Office personnel were rude, uneducated about how the SS Administration works. Anyone else having a problem with this office, needs to report it.

How long will it take to get a Social Security card?

What is SSI (Supplemental Security Income)?
SSI provides monthly payments to adults and children who have low income, few resources, and who are blind or disabled. SSI also provides monthly payments to people age 65 and older with limited income and resources, who are not blind or disabled.
How Much Can You Get from SSI?
The basic monthly federal amount for 2021 is the same nationwide:
$794 for one person, or
$1,191 for a couple



Not everyone gets the same amount. You may get more if you live in a state that adds money to the federal SSI payment. On the other hand, you may get less if you have other income such as wages, pensions, or Social Security benefits. You may also get less if someone pays your household expenses. You may also get less if you live with a spouse and he or she has income.
Should I Apply for SSI?
To get a monthly payment you must:
Be at least age 65 OR be blind or disabled;
Have limited income (wages, pensions, etc.);
Have limited resources (the things you own);
Be a U.S. citizen, a national of the U.S., or some noncitizens; and
Reside in one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, or the Northern Mariana Islands.

Exception: The children of military parent(s) assigned to permanent duty outside the U.S. and certain students temporarily abroad may receive SSI payments outside the U.S.
