'Call between 7 a.m. to 7p.m. Monday through Friday. Call the phone number as early as possible or after 6 p.m.' THIS IS A LIE. I have tried calling between these times to make an appointment and I get NOTHING. I want to follow the rules, but so should they. Either you are there or you are not.
I need a paper showing how much I get on my social security
Need to schedule an appointment to get my social security card replaced
On Friday afternoon, my husband and I stopped by the Social Security office because we had a question concerning a letter he had received about his Medicare. We did not realize the office was closed to walk-ins. When we found the door was locked, we jiggled it a few times, thinking that somebody would come to the door and tell us to wait outside until we were called -- as a number of offices and businesses do. After a few minutes, your security officer came to the door and said in a very rude voice, the door is locked, can't you read the notice on the door? I'm am 5'2' with severe arthritis in the neck and back. The notice is posted a good 6 feet up on the door and only the word 'Notice' was printed in large letters. Even if I could bend my neck back, I still wouldn't have been able to read the small print. When my husband tried to explain that we had a problem, the officer snapped at us to get away from the door. This made my husband angry and he said something he shouldn't have said -- at which point the officer said 'if you do, it will be the worst day of your life.' I thought he was going to pull his gun on us. All of this could have been avoided if the officer had told us politely and civilly 'Because of the covid virus, we are not seeing walk-ins. If you would like to make an appointment, please call -- the number is on the office website.' There was absolutely no reason for him to be so rude, to use that tone of voice and treat us like criminals just because we rattled the door a few times. You really need to post your notice at normal eye-level. It's very confusing when your open hours sign is posted at eye-level, but your Notice is 6+ feet up on the door.
Do i go to an office to sign up for Medicare?
My SS office has no local phone number to call, or e-mail to set up an appointment. I got a recording saying to leave my number and they would return my call in about 1.5 hrs. When they did the earliest appt. is Dec. 10 or apply by phone appt. Nov. 4 at 3:00 they would call me. I find this very strange. Their office hours a 9-4MTTF, Wed. 9-12, and closed Sat. & Sun. Not very convenient.
