Do I have to make an appointment to change from resident to a citizen?

  2. Sep 15, 2023

I have been trying for 2 years to change the name on my card. Since COVID nobody picks up the phone, this is unacceptable and I have not been able to get a driver’s license or even an IDENTIFICATION card this has caused me many jobs and undue stress, there is no reason my local office keeps forwarding calls to you and because of this there have been lines around the building to actually get any help this needs, to be addressed.

0 stars, this office is the worst office to ever have to deal with your disabled child's social security. Now there office number is being directed to 1800 number I can't even get a hold of them and the 1800 can not do what needs to be done. I am not standing and waiting 10+ hours to be seen at the office. DO BETTER AND HELP THE PEOPLE THAT NEED TO BE HELPED.

I spoke with Social Security general number just now to find out how to change my name do to a new marriage. It seems they do not take appointments for that and I will have to wait on probably a very very long line to get this done in the Orlando area. I’m afraid to mail it in because from reading what it says on here a lot of people have had problems getting the documents back. It’s such a terrible system and I don’t know if I can even stand online that long so I’m thinking about bringing a chair with me like a little beach chairs. It sounds like it’s gonna be a horrible day.

I submitted/mailed an application for a new SSA card due to a name change at the start of the month. I received my new SSA card with my new name soon after, maybe within 7 business days. It's now been 4 weeks and I have not recieved my original documents back. I'm concerned that these were either lost in the mail or lost in general.

Hello. I am sending a review and comments to SSA card office. I am disappointed and frustrated with my current situation applying for an updated SS card. I have made several attempts to update my current information, such as current married last name, address etc on my application. The directions on application is confusing. I tried to call SSA office several times to get some assistance and clear directio n. I can't seem to speak to a person who actually works at Offices. I would hope that SS system improves on customer service etc. My comment and reviews are negative to SS Office.

Good morning, I went to the office to change the name of my social security and a security guard told me that I had to send an envelope with a form to fill out and my paper for the receipt of my work permit a week, they answered me saying that they could not do it because I did not send the appropriate documents, now I ask how I know what documents to send if the customer service is bad there is no one to help you in the office and I call and an operator speaks it is absurd that the guards are the ones who guide people there now I ask what document I have to send you.

It is beyond impossible to speak with someone to make an appointment. It is so hard to do the things one needs to do, because communication does not exist with this place. I am so disappointed in the service and how difficult they make EVERYTHING. It is ridiculous that it takes MONTHS to speak with someone.

  10. Feb 1, 2022

OMG this is the worst voicemail system I have ever encountered. Total exercise in frustration. God help us if the government ever wants to control healthcare

  11. Dec 1, 2021

  13. Oct 26, 2021

After 18 minutes of patiently waiting, your call will automatically be terminated and asked to call later. Horrible customer service practices.

  14. Sep 3, 2021

I applied for a name correction with all supporting documents more than a month ago. I have been following up on phone for last 10 days without any meaningful conversation or result. I was told that the application is not showing in the system and try again later. Today after a month i was told that the application is not in the system at all. Social security card is the most import document especially for an immigrant. This is so disappointing that the in person appointment is not available for another month and they can't give any status on phone. Need urgent help.

Trying to get a new social security card

  16. Jul 14, 2021

I submitted all documentation attached to my name change application. Got my original documents back along with a receipt. However is about to be a month after and I haven't received my new social security card with my new name. I have called multiple times a day and nobody answers the phone. I can tell it was approved because they sent my documentation back addressed with my new last name.

  17. Jun 30, 2021

I live abroad and will be in Orlando. I just need a name change. I received my SS “package” via email, but need to know what docs you require, just Passport and divorce decree? I cannot be without my Passport. Must have an in-person appointment.

  18. Jun 26, 2021

How can I get my Social Security card

  19. Jun 24, 2021

Have been trying to get name & address change. No one answers the phone to see if they are open. Drive there & they are closed for some obscure reason that day so you cannot drop documents off.

  20. Jun 8, 2021

TRYING TO GET MEDICARE PLAN B. HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET THROUGH WITH SHORTEST WAIT TIME SO FAR 30 MIN. THEN GAVE UP. GOT THROUGH ONCE LAST WEEK AND WAS TOLD THEY NEVER RECEIVED FORM CMS408. MAILED TWICE. BLAMED POST OFFICE. TOLD ME TO CALL BACK WHICH I HAVE BEEN DOING. WAS TOLD BY CLERK THEY WOULD SEND ME AN EMAIL REGARDING OUR CONVERSATION. STILL WAITING FOR THAT.

  25. May 18, 2021

After waiting on hold for over an hour and 15 minutes finally reached someone. Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Beyond rude, when asked her name she wouldn’t give it to me. Haven’t been able to receive my requested documents for almost a year of mailing back and forth. Accept some things I send deny, I replace denied documents then deny the ones previously accepted. The main issue is the phone service reps. If you have questions they immediately have attitudes. Why work in customer service if you get mad when someone asks a question they do not know the answer to? I wish I could’ve gotten her name, but as I stated she hung up on me when I asked.

  26. May 13, 2021

How can i get an increase on my disability check? And how many hours am i allowed to work on a job?

  27. May 10, 2021

I am a US citizen with a valid US passport but I need a social security card to verify for my unemployment benefits even though I know my social security number. Now USPS has lost three packages of mine and I was told from your office that the only way I can get a replacement is by mailing my original passport to your office. If USPS loses my only form of identification.. then what? So I'm sure you can see how I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. May I just have the letter that says I'm in the process of obtaining a new social security card because that can be used as verification?

  28. Apr 30, 2021

It is very sad how you operate. I need a replacement card for my son. You want me to send my drivers license thru the mail to get this. When it is against the law to drive with no license. You don’t give apts or zoom calls. I can not seem to get anyone to give me a straight answer for help.

  29. Apr 20, 2021

Good afternoon! I sent you my marriage certificate And my husband's death certificate and so far I have not received the originals as it was explained to me you would send the originals.

  30. Apr 11, 2021

I have been trying to get my name changed back since November of 2020 when my divorce was finalized. I have sent in 3 applications and keep getting rejected. First, I found out your office has had the wrong place of birth and no one mentioned this since the 80’s. I only found this out after waiting a month after my first application and I called and waited on hold for over an hour to check the status. The second application, I needed to send my original license, fine. I sent all original documentation the third time and still received a denial saying my divorce decree was a copy when it wasn’t. Many phones calls later, the worst being over 3 hours on hold without anyone answering, I was told to fax the letter confirming receipt of my application and write my personal information on it to my local office. Absolutely unbelievable! I understand that the pandemic has caused some delays, but your office has become completely inefficient and incompetent! My frustration with how poorly this government facility is “operating” is beyond words!

  31. Apr 6, 2021

I tried to reach Orlando SSN office and waited on the line for 1 hour 13 mins then i dropped off as i couldn't reach. I need to get an appointment for ineligibility of SSN . how to reach and get an appointment ?

  32. Mar 30, 2021

I have been calling for 3 months- waiting several hours every day. NO ONE ANSWERS (in three months of calling) This is terrible for a government office. I NEED my new SS card. The entire state is open, our government is the WORST!

  33. Mar 25, 2021

I need appointment for applying SSN

  34. Mar 23, 2021

No-one answers the phone. I've been calling and in queue for over an hour. Called the main SS number and they can't help. I wouldn't mail my original documents in with the hopes they would return if you can't even speak with someone.

  35. Mar 15, 2021

can i just come in to pick up a social security card?

  36. Mar 5, 2021

I have been trying for Months to have my business taken care of without result! Now it is to the point where I have been calling and on hold for almost an hour with each call. Once someone does finally pick up, I can hear all the remote work from home background noise such as chewing, dogs you name it in the background and no regard to address me on the phone at all. Better yet, on my last 4 call attempts after waiting close to an hour, they pick up just to hang up on me. It is clear the working remote and the phones only option is not working PERIOD. So when will the offices open back up? Or come up with a system that doesn't leave us out in the cold with important documents we can't obtain with this ridiculous process?

  37. Mar 4, 2021

How come is it that I’m trying to schedule an appointment an no one is answering the phone. It’s not like we’re asking for a favor. We pay your salaries with our taxes. The least you can do is to have customer service available or just make everything online. This is outrageous...

  45. Dec 7, 2020

I have recently applied online for Social Security. I received one piece of mail from this office from a P Gawdlock asking for an original of my passport and most recent W2s. I have provided these documents and can't seem to go any further. I have recite that someone with the initials D. I. signed for the registered mail I sent. I have tried to call the phone number provided to check as to when they will be mailing back my passport and no one but the robots take the call. I've left numerous messages for P Gawslock. I have waited on the phone from 9:01 am until the automated system hung up on me. I call back and everyone is gone for the day. In total I've spent over 15 hours waiting for an agent on multiple days and cannot get anywhere. I'd like to get my passport back please. And I'd also like to start getting my social security. I know government agencies are busy, but come on! Mail me back my Passport please and let me know what is going on with my application.

Calling to schedule an appointment to get my name change/Update on my social security card

  48. Oct 29, 2020

I recently submitted a name change via snail mail. A week ago I was left a message from the Social Security office with no explanation to why they were calling. I have called every day for the past week to find out the reason and I have been unable to talk to a real person. The person who left the message gave me his extension number and it appears the voicemail is not set up. Very frustrating.

Estuve esperando para hablar con un Representante y después de esperar engancharon la llamada!!! No se si seria la persona o problemas telefónicos

  50. Oct 20, 2020

Horrible I call to make a appointment like it said on line to do and the gentleman tells me no I have to download the application and mail it in wth my original drivers license marriage certificate to the office. And who is going to pay for that stuff if it ends up lost! I bet not them. Really I know that excuse of covid things are a little crazy, but to ask for your original forms to be mailed in is a little crazy!!!!! This is a government agency like others why don't they have a better plan B? Even DMV is more accommodating and understanding wth people. And have a better organization whn it comes to doing there job and assisting people with appointments. So now I can't get a new card wth my married name on it until they reopen for appointments.

  51. Sep 28, 2020

Very dissatisfied with the way they conduct business. They were very unconcern with my daughter receiving benefits From her fathers retirement which he listed her as his dependent After 5 months of them telling me they didn’t have her address and me giving this information numerous time and SS not returning my phone calls at all. I finally talk with a supervisor, I think at this point attention done.

What address do I need to go to and what time do the doors open?? These forms/application that I have is to confusing to me. I need assistance please!

  63. Oct 25, 2019

My aunt's date of death was entered in the Social Security System incorrectly and thus this major inaccuracy has caused Chase Bank to place a hold of $27,742 on our checking account although I personally waited for over 2 hours to give the clerk the death certificate in person. Such incompetence at this location truly displays the lack of attention to detail without checks and balances to ensure such sensitive information is accurate. This type of counterproductive service, which impacts our daily routines and financial responsibilities immensely, will probably continue without any attempt to improve the mission and vision of the agency.

' serving Seminole, Osceola & Orange Counties this is to much for one office and is absolutely insane! No where to park! We can put a man on the moon - but we cant have more offices?

  68. May 3, 2015

'm a resident of Kissimmee, FLORIDA and do not enjoy the hour ride to the only 'card center' serving Seminole, Osceola & Orange Counties. This is insane! I don't know what adults do with their Social Security cards, but to keep the crowd down at this office, some people need to be more Responsible. I've visited this office 3 times & each time there's more people. I wish the government would open another card center because it's really ridiculous to wait 90 minutes to be seen, then be told you don't have the correct paperwork to get a card for a child in your custody. And the people answering the phone almost always give you incorrect information. I believe most of the employees there work diligently to you in and out, but the waiting is annoying.

You may also get less if you live with a spouse and he or she has income.
Should I Apply for SSI?
To get a monthly payment you must:
Be at least age 65 OR be blind or disabled;
Have limited income (wages, pensions, etc.);
Have limited resources (the things you own);
Be a U.S. citizen, a national of the U.S., or some noncitizens; and
Reside in one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, or the Northern Mariana Islands.

Exception: The children of military parent(s) assigned to permanent duty outside the U.S. and certain students temporarily abroad may receive SSI payments outside the U.S.
